Anyone who has visited the Outer Banks knows that the amazing natural beauty of the area is only outdone by the people who live and work in the communities from Corolla to Manteo to Ocracoke. These hard working men and women and their families are a different breed, truly giving meaning to the North Carolina state motto, “To Be Rather Than to Seem.”
OBX Outfitters is committed to donating our time and treasure to deserving local community groups, nonprofits, and others making this a great place to live and work, and we encourage others to seek opportunities to do the same, whether through volunteering or supporting local organizations and businesses.
Here is a list of just some of the many nonprofits, businesses, and other groups in the Outer Banks and throughout North Carolina showcasing the best our state has to offer its residents, visitors, business community and natural environment.

Friends of Portsmouth Island
www.friendsofportsmouthisland.org
A working committee to be known as Friends of Portsmouth Island was formed in late 1989 under the sponsorship of the Carteret County Historical Society. A tentative statement of purpose and short-term and long-term goals were established. The statement of purpose consisted of three areas:
* To promote and encourage the preservation of the historic structures, furnishings and sites of Portsmouth Island.
* To collect and preserve artifacts, photographs, documents and manuscripts of Portsmouth Island for deposit in the Carteret County Museum of History and Art.
* To foster and promote public knowledge of and interest in Portsmouth Island’s past, present and future.
Montie Gear
Our philosophy for Montie Gear outdoor products is pretty straight forward — we provide Heirloom Quality Products that are Troublesome Gap Tough. Located near the peak of Hap Mountain overlooking Spring Creek, North Carolina, Troublesome Gap is a rugged mountain area where Montie Gear hunting and camping prototypes are tested and evaluated. Made right here in the USA, we want to design and sell products like our popular portable shooting rests, slingshots, archery stands, and camp racks that are simple, elegant and high enough quality that you will want to pass them along to your kids or grandchildren.
North Carolina Brewers Guild
The North Carolina Brewers Guild is a not-for-profit 501(c)6 tax-exempt organization comprised of brewers, vendors, retailers and craft beer enthusiasts focused on promoting North Carolina beer. North Carolina boasts the largest number of craft breweries in the American South, with more than 50 breweries and brewpubs. It is also the most decorated state in the South with more medals from the World Beer Cup(R) and the Great American Beer Festival than any of its neighboring states.
Ocracoke Current
Ocracoke Current is a source of reliable news and information for the residents of and visitors to Ocracoke Island. Supposedly, humor is involved. As an online paper, updated daily, we provide timely coverage of island topics. It’s like good gossip, but verifiable. Ocracoke Current is the brainchild of Jenny Scarborough and Sundae Horn, who would say they’ve been writing about Ocracoke for two decades, but they don’t want to admit they’re that old. On Ocracoke Current, you’ll find daily posts to keep you up to date about local issues and island events. We’ll also feature stories, articles, and photos about Ocracoke history, culture, and all the real and imagined wonders of island living. Ocracoke Current will provide a forum for respectful dialogue about the many issues facing our little island. We anticipate lots of lively debate!
Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce

Outer Banks Relief Foundation
www.outerbanksrelieffoundation.com
In 2004, a group of local citizens here on the Outer Banks decided to start an organization that would raise local funds to be used to help local folks in our Outer Banks community who are burdened with financial difficulties because of a debilitating disease or illness, or a personal tragedy or crisis with themselves or a family member. Since that time over 7 years ago, the Outer Banks Relief Foundation has provided over $605,000 to over 280 local citizens in need. Financial assistance amounts range from $500 to $3,000. Some examples of those situations are individuals stricken with cancer, or with serious blood or nerve disorders, or spinal injuries, or MS. We work closely with the other charitable and helping organizations here in our Outer Banks community, in order to coordinate our support and services to the needy, to not duplicate our efforts, and to maximize our collective resources as much a possible, particularly in these challenging economic times.
